Why PFOA and PFOs are dangerous for your health

Why PFOA and PFOs are dangerous for your health

What are PFOA and PFOs? Why are they dangerous for the health? Can you find them in non-stick cookware?

PFOA is a manufactured chemical that is part of a larger group of chemicals called perfluoroalkyls.

PFOs and PFOA stand for perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorooctanoic acid, respectively. Both are fluorinated organic chemicals, part of a larger family of compounds referred to as perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

This kind of chemicals are synthetic compounds that are unique for being water and lipid-resistant. They have been largely used in the ’50 in stain-resistant carpets and fabrics, nonstick cookware, and other products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water.

These substances can contaminate the organism through water, air, soil and they can travel long distance in the air on particles that eventually fall to the ground. For more information you can read this document from Environment ministry.

Why PFOA and PFOs are dangerous for your health

Studies have found correlation between high PFOA exposure and six health outcomes: kidney cancer, testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), and pregnancy-induced hypertension.  PFOA can remain in the body for long periods of time and the level can vary depending on the subject.

Do non-stick cookware contain PFAS AND PFOS?

PRIMECOOK cookware is  PTFE-, PFOA-, nickel-, and heavy metals-free.

The ecoshield coating is nonstick, inorganic chemistry, with ultra-resistant mineral micro-particles.

This kind of innovative technology allows the company to produce a line 100% nontoxic.
